Vadodara Navratri Pandal Stoned After Social Media Post, 50 Held by Police

At least 50 people were arrested after a stone-pelting incident in Vadodara’s Zunigarhi area late Friday night, police said on Saturday. The unrest began after a social media post sparked tension, and a crowd gathered at the city police station to complain. During the commotion, some people reportedly attacked a Navratri pandal, damaged vehicles, and threw stones in the area. Police quickly stepped in to control the situation. Vadodara DCP Andrew Macwan said, “We acted immediately to bring the situation under control. Fifty people have been detained, and a detailed investigation is underway.” More information is awaited.

Past Incidents in Karnataka

A similar stone-pelting case happened last week in Maddur town, Karnataka. On September 8, stones were thrown during a Ganpati procession, which led to protests. Police arrested 21 people and used a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. The incident reportedly occurred near a mosque, during a Ganpati procession. A pro-Hindu group had also protested over the event.

Official Response

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the procession was advised not to stay in the area for long. "When the procession passed near the mosque, a small clash happened. Police had warned people in the procession not to stay there for too long. At that time, some stone-pelting occurred… A mild lathi charge was carried out when people gathered in groups to create trouble," he explained. The CM assured that legal action would be taken against those involved and blamed BJP leaders for provoking the situation. "Anyone guilty will face the law. BJP leaders are creating provocation. Police have not made any mistake. If any mistake occurred, action will be taken," he added.
